For homeowners currently shopping for attic insulation in Quinte West, it would be an advantage to know a little about insulation. It’s not about having in-depth technical knowledge, but some of the basics could be valuable. Whether it’s for new construction, a renovation, or a retrofit, two things are vital for project success - choosing the appropriate insulation product for the job, and choosing a good contractor (both will impact the project). For the typical homeowner, a good understanding of the basics will certainly make for better decisions as the project progresses. As well, being knowledgeable will contribute to constructive working relations with the contractor.
Installing attic insulation requires expertise and experience. A professional approach is therefore recommended - the project outcomes will be far superior and the work will be done right from the start. Even the product options tend to be unique, and for a homeowner, selecting the right product could get challenging. However, with a good contractor on hand, choosing a suitable product and installation can be collaborative and constructive. A good contractor is an advantage for the homeowner: there’s an assurance that product and installation will be right; there’s reliability that the project will be well managed; and there’s confidence about decision making.
A reputable insulation contractor is sure to be responsive to the homeowner. The priorities of the project will be addressed; the job proposal will be comprehensive; the budget will be considered; and customer service will be assured. Just like any project, attic insulation is going to rely heavily on a quality approach. In fact, long-term performance in the attic will most definitely depend on a quality product and install. At Great Northern Insulation, the quality approach to attic insulation is about supplying the best possible products and installing at the very highest standard. As well, there’s a solid commitment to full customer satisfaction, whatever the size of the job.
Having the attic insulated professionally will benefit a homeowner in a number of ways. To begin with, the homeowner is assured of a proper attic assessment. Following that, there’s a project proposal that is thorough and in-depth. And finally, there’s an assurance that the products and finished installation are warrantied. Beyond everything else, a good contractor will be prepared to address problems, even after a project has been finished. For homeowners thinking about installing attic insulation in Quinte West, working with a professional will bring great results: improved home comfort; reduced heating and cooling bills; and measurable dollar savings.
Residential attics pose some challenges when it comes to insulating. That’s why the professionals will start by creating an airtight space - sealing the attic completely ensures maximum insulation performance. And effectively sealing the attic means closing up every little hole, opening, and gap. An airtight space stops unwanted air movement, and therefore improves energy efficiency. A professionally sealed and insulated attic will become a “system” that effectively improves overall efficiencies: energy consumption (gas and electric) will be better balanced; heating and cooling systems will operate far more efficiently; and indoor comfort will be enhanced throughout.
Today, there are countless insulation products on the market. But for many installers it’s Spray Polyurethane Foam that has become a favorite. It has proven itself in the attic and roof, mainly because it prevents air movement and moisture collection so effectively. In a typical install, SPF would be sprayed into the attic so that it expands and hardens into a dense “envelope”. With a professional application, the attic space is fully blanketed, including the wooden beams, electric wiring, plumbing, and HVAC ducts. Every little crack and crevice is sealed, and the attic becomes totally impervious to air and moisture. Not to forget, SPF provides the very highest R-Values.
Another possibility for the attic is “blown-in” insulation. It’s available in cellulose or fiberglass, and has become an affordable installation method, especially in the attic. Expertly installed, the product is blown into the attic as a “thermal insulation blanket” with good R-Value. Both of the products (fiberglass and cellulose) are “fluffy” in composition, and are specifically manufactured to impede air movement in an attic. “Blown-in” insulation is a cost-effective method with several good outcomes - the fluffiness of the insulation adapts very well to the unique attic space - the insulated space is fire resistant - and the environment is resistant to rodents, insects and mold.
Today, a preferred installation for the attic and roof is the “hybrid” method from GNI. This is one of the more cost effective approaches, and an ideal option for the attic. The Spray Polyurethane Foam is applied first, and then supplemented with one of the “blown-in” products. It’s a combination installation, where the products compliment each other, and provide excellent long-term performance in any size of attic. The “hybrid” method from GNI has a number of benefits for the homeowner. First, the resulting R-Values are quite satisfactory. Second, the overall project investment is quite cost-worthy. And third, the annual energy savings are quite impressive.
In recent years, Spray Polyurethane Foam has become very highly regarded by professionals in the industry. It’s considered to be the best insulation product on the market. But as a premium product, SPF does not always fit well into a homeowner’s budget. In response, the “hybrid” install from GNI has emerged as a viable option for many homeowners. The installation is ideal for the attic, and delivers a good many benefits - the attic space gets sealed and insulated effectively; the finished R-Values deliver excellent thermal insulation and energy efficiency; and the yearly dollar savings on utilities are apparent for many years to come.
