When considering insulation for the attic, there are some fundamentals to keep in mind. First of all, it’s important to select the right insulation product for the job. It’s equally important to select the right contractor for the job. In addition, it’s also important to have a good understanding of the job itself, since each job poses its own unique challenges. When it comes time to select the contractor, shop around and look for a company with a good reputation and with an established history for top-quality work. A good contractor will make a noticeable difference.
If you are currently shopping around for attic insulation in Clarington, Ontario, or in other centers throughout Durham Region, hiring a contractor like Great Northern Insulation could be worthwhile. We are known to be Canada’s largest full-service insulation contractor, selling top-quality products, and performing top-quality installations. We encourage customers to be well informed about their attic insulation project, and we work in tandem, so that important decisions are made together. Quite simply, a better-informed consumer is bound to make better decisions.
With so many options available, consumers can get easily confused about attic insulation. Every manufacturer markets their particular product as the best one, and every contractor sells their particular service as the best one. With this kind of information bombardment, it’s critical to hire a company that will answer your questions fully, while keeping your project requisites as a priority. And since you are the customer, it’s important to go with a reputable contractor who will also make project proposals to resolve the challenges of your job.
When you hire a company like Great Northern Insulation, you’re hiring an insulation contractor with experience and expertise. Our install teams work with you throughout the life of the project - they focus on the requirements of the job at hand; and importantly, they offer solutions. GNI likes to do the job right the first time. We only install the insulation product that best suits the job, and we want to ensure that benefits are long lasting. Above all, doing the job right the first time means resolving the specific challenges of the project.
The GNI approach to attic insulation is a comprehensive approach. We thoroughly assess the attic’s condition - we provide a detailed summary report - and we make recommendations for action. At GNI, we only recommend insulation products that address the job at hand, and we always consider the customer’s budget constraints. Regardless of project scope, Great Northern Insulation works very closely with each customer, and because customer satisfaction is our priority, you’re in good hands from the start of the project to the end.
Every attic insulation project by GNI combines top-quality products with a top-quality installation. We provide customers with the manufacturer’s product warranty on products we install, and also provide a company guarantee on work performed. In the event of a problem, we make every effort to resolve it. In the event that a repair is required, we make every effort to satisfactorily repair. So if you’re shopping for attic insulation in Clarington, or in any of the communities in Durham Region, hiring Great Northern Insulation could well be the answer.
When our people install your attic insulation, the finished product is an attic space that is properly sealed, well ventilated, and efficiently insulated. We seal up the attic completely, and create a space that is airtight - it sets the stage for energy savings from one season to the next, and for overall home comfort through the year. The process of sealing, ventilating and insulating is the way we do the job right the first time. It’s also a very good reason to choose Great Northern Insulation as your attic insulation contractor.
When choosing an attic insulation product, the most important thing is to choose the product that best suits the project. In recent years, there has been a tendency for professionals to select spray foam insulation as their personal “product-of-choice”. The product is considered the best on the market. Spray foam insulation has more benefits and better long-term outcomes than any other product. It is sometimes referred to as polyurethane foam, and has become the “product-of-choice” for the team at Great Northern Insulation.
The spray foam product makes use of special application equipment and special application techniques. It is applied as a thick liquid - it quickly spreads throughout a given space - and just as quickly it hardens into a dense layer of foam insulation. A proper install will coat the entire attic completely, including the wooden support beams, the plumbing, the HVAC ducts, and all the electric wires. Spray foam is the most effective insulation for the attic – it provides the highest R-Value, and serves as the most efficient and impermeable air and moisture barrier.
Another viable product for the attic is blown-in insulation, an affordable product for most budgets. It’s available in two compositions - fiberglass or cellulose. Both compositions are “fluffy” in their nature, and specifically designed to restrict the flow of air. This makes for a very efficient insulator. Both products are treated to be fire resistant, and to resist mold, mildew and rodents - the ideal product for the attic. With a proper install, blown-in insulation can be applied right on top of the attic’s existing insulation, creating a “thermal blanket” that delivers superb R-Value.
All things considered, Great Northern Insulation prefers a “hybrid” approach for the attic. This is a combination of spray foam insulation PLUS blown-in insulation. The two possible options are: spray foam PLUS fiberglass OR spray foam PLUS cellulose – it all depends on the job at hand. With either option, the spray foam product provides the sealing and insulating features, while the blown-in product provides the great dollar value as an additional insulation. For the very best results, we routinely recommend the “hybrid” approach.
The truth is, attic insulation requires a professional touch. And although home centers are selling the idea of a DIY approach, the team at GNI discourages this approach. We contend that attic insulation is best left to the professionals who have the experience and expertise with both product and installation.
