For homeowners purchasing attic insulation in Kingston, there are some things worth thinking about. The basics will be the same, whether it’s a new installation, a re-install, or even a retrofit. But probably most important is choosing an insulation product that will meet the specific needs of the project. As well, its important to choose a reputable and reliable insulation contractor. And finally, it’s good to understand the basics of the project itself. While it’s not really necessary for a homeowner to get too technical, being knowledgeable makes a big difference when it’s time to make decisions. And being informed makes for better working relations with the contractor.
Having a good contractor on hand makes a difference on a project, and having a company that’s experienced and established can be critical for project success. A good contractor will readily answer questions, review favorable options, and make viable recommendations for products and installation. And this is where choosing the right product might get a little challenging. With so much product marketing going on, it’s often more confusing than informative. A good contractor would be valuable here, and a collaborative approach to decision making would definitely be preferable. But most important for a homeowner, is for the product and installation to be right.
A job like attic insulation requires a contractor to work with a homeowner for the duration of the project. The contractor should address the requisites of the job, and make recommendations that will suit those requisites. Needless to say, high quality products and high quality workmanship will always make for better results. And in most cases, the quality approach is the one that will ensure better product performance. For the team at Great Northern Insulation, the approach is simple: providing the homeowner with the best quality insulation products; installing at the highest standard; and guaranteeing customer satisfaction. It simply means doing the job right.
Like any insulation project, insulating the attic should be done right the first time. It should begin with a thorough attic assessment, and followed with a project proposal that takes the budget into consideration. Also important would be the inclusion of a manufacturer’s product warrantee and a guarantee on installation. Indeed, good contractors will also ensure post-installation service in the event that issues or problems arise after the install – this is a true sign of commitment to the customer. For the homeowner considering attic insulation in Kingston, it’s about achieving the best results for a home improvement project that will deliver benefits for many years to come.
In spaces like the attic and roof cavity, professional contractors focus on sealing the space tight, regardless of the insulation product that’s being used. This is because an airtight attic (or roof) will allow the insulation to perform at its best. And this means sealing every hole, opening, gap, and crack. Airtightness is absolutely essential, particularly in the attic – it will prevent airflow and allow for better energy efficiencies in winter and summer. Together, sealing and insulation make for a complete “system”, one that provides both indoor comfort and energy savings at the same time. An attic that is sealed, ventilated, and insulated will provide long-term performance.
There are countless insulation products on the market today, so it can be somewhat challenging when making a purchasing decision. For the experts, however, Spray Polyurethane Foam (SPF) has emerged as a “product-of-choice”. SPF is ideal in the attic, particularly when it comes to controlling the air and moisture throughout. SPF is actually sprayed throughout the attic, where it expands and hardens into a dense “insulating blanket”. With a good install, the attic can be completely blanketed, including the beams, plumbing, wiring, and ductwork. The attic becomes impermeable to any air and/or moisture, and becomes insulated with very high R-Values.
One other option for the attic is “blown” insulation. The product is available in either fiberglass or cellulose, and is widely considered the most affordable insulation when compared. With a good install, “blown” insulation settles uniformly through the attic, and forms a thermal blanket of insulation with satisfactory R-Value. Both fiberglass and cellulose versions are “fluffy” when installed, and are designed specifically to contain airflow in the attic. “Blown” insulation is quite well suited for the attic or roof cavity: it offers good thermal insulation; it’s fire resistant; it’s mildew and mold resistant; and it doesn’t provide a haven for insects, rodents, or animals.
One of the better options for attic insulation is the “hybrid” install. For Great Northern Insulation, this installation delivers excellent results, within a cost effective budget. The principle here is to combine two insulation products into one install – first, the Spray Polyurethane Foam (SPF) is installed, then the “blown” insulation (cellulose or fiberglass). With an expert install, the products compliment each other, and provide a wide range of benefits. The “hybrid” installation offers optimum insulation performance – with both insulation products combined, the R-Values are excellent, and the overall project offers a cost effectiveness to most any project budget.
For most insulation experts, SPF is the best application for an attic and/or roof. In fact, the experts are routinely installing SPF in many parts of the home. It’s considered a high-premium product with excellent outcomes. However, it may not suit every homeowner’s budget, which is why the “hybrid” install has gained popularity. The “hybrid” solution offers the best of all options, within a cost-effective budget. The SPF allows for superb sealing and insulating, and the “blown” insulation increases R-Value while supplementing the effectiveness of the insulation. For many a homeowner, the “hybrid” installation delivers the best overall outcomes for many years to come.
