If you’re thinking about insulating your attic, there are a few important basics to think about. You should be thinking about choosing the right insulation product for your attic. You should also be thinking about choosing the right contractor for the job. Finally, you should have an understanding of the job itself, and even about some of the challenges involved. As for choosing a contractor, it’s wise to do some shopping around - look for a company that is established, with a good reputation, and with a history for quality work. A good insulation contractor will make a difference.
When shopping for attic insulation in Unionville, or in any of the communities north of the GTA, an insulation contractor like Great Northern Insulation is worth your consideration. We’re regarded as Canada’s largest full-service insulation contractor. We sell quality products; our workmanship is superior; and our customer service is unequalled. We like our customers to understand the nature of their attic insulation project, so they can make better decisions during the life of their project. Clearly, better informed consumers make better decisions.
It’s really no surprise that many consumers are confused about attic insulation. Every product manufacturer promotes their product as the best, and every contractor promotes their services as the best. At the end of the day, there are often more questions than answers. It’s therefore quite important to hire a contracting company that can answer all the questions, and make the kind of project proposals that will resolve the challenges of your job. You are the customer, and you should be hiring a company that keeps your priorities top-of-mind.
When you decide to hire a company like Great Northern Insulation, it’s all about project experience and expertise, and that can make a difference. Our installation teams work with you from start to finish; they address the pre-requisites of the job; and they offer viable solutions. Above all, GNI believes in doing the job right the first time. We install attic installation that will suit the customer’s needs, while providing meaningful benefits that are measurable over the long term. For GNI, doing the job right also means fully resolving the original challenges of the job.
When the GNI team undertakes an attic insulation project, it’s a comprehensive approach. We do a thorough assessment of the attic - we follow with a detailed status report - and we then follow with project recommendations. The GNI team only recommends insulation products that suit the job, and always considers the customer’s budget. Whatever the project size, you’ll be in capable hands with Great Northern Insulation. Customer satisfaction is our top priority, and working closely with our customer is day-to-day routine.
Every one of our attic insulation projects combines the best quality products and the highest quality installation. The manufacturer’s product warranty is provided for everything we install, and we include our own guarantee on the workmanship. If a problem ensues, we do our best to resolve it. If repairs are required, we do our best to resolve the situation and repair to industry standards. So if you’re shopping for attic insulation in Unionville, or in any of the communities north of the GTA, you’ll find GNI to be a contractor you can fully rely on.
When Great Northern Insulation handles your attic insulation, the finished space has become a complete “system”. The attic is well sealed, properly ventilated, and effectively insulated. We begin by sealing up the attic and creating an airtight space. This sets the stage for an insulated space that will deliver significant energy savings seasonally, and home comfort throughout the year. Creating a “complete” system is our way of doing it right the first time. Its also one of the best reasons for choosing GNI as your attic insulation contractor.
Attic insulation products are many and varied. The important thing is to select the right product for the job at hand. And today, more and more professionals are selecting spray foam insulation as the product-of-choice. The spray foam product is being universally recognized as the best product on the market. When compared to similar products on the market, the spray foam has many more benefits, and much better long-term outcomes. It is generically known as polyurethane foam in the business, and has quickly become the product-of-choice at Great Northern Insulation.
The spray foam application uses special equipment and special techniques. It’s sprayed out in thick liquid form – it spreads out uniformly – and it hardens quickly into a dense layer of insulation. With a proper installation, the entire attic space is completely coated: wood beams, plumbing, ductwork, and all the electric wiring. It remains the most effective application for insulating the attic. In fact, it provides a higher R-Value than any other product, while serving as an efficient and impermeable barrier to both air and moisture.
Another product worth considering is blown-in insulation. This is an affordable product for the attic, and will suit most budgets. Two compositions are available: fiberglass or cellulose. Blown-in insulation has a “fluffy” composition and is designed to restrict airflow. It’s therefore an efficient insulator, and is also specially treated to resist fire, mold, mildew and rodents. Clearly, this is an ideal application for the attic. When properly applied and properly distributed, this product can be applied on top of existing insulation – it creates a “thermal blanket” with excellent R-Value.
For the installation teams at Great Northern Insulation, the “hybrid” approach for attic insulation is the preferred approach. It’s a combination of spray foam insulation AND blown-in insulation. Installers decide on the spray foam product PLUS the fiberglass blown-in product OR the spray foam product PLUS the cellulose blown-in product. Either way, the spray foam application acts as a sealer and insulator, while the blown-in application provides the great dollar value. GNI installers are routinely recommending the “hybrid” approach for best results.
At GNI, we believe that attic insulation demands a professional installation, and while many home centers are promoting the DIY approach, GNI usually discourages it. We believe that attic insulation is best left to the experts – those with experience and expertise in their field.
