Up to $5,000 in Union Gas rebates for Improving Home Energy

January 30, 2018

Homeowners can now realize up to $5,000 in Union Gas rebates just by making improvements to home energy. For those who are planning renovations, upgrades, or retrofits, the Home Reno Rebate Program from Union Gas can turn a planned home energy improvement into reality.

No doubt, the best home renovation is one that can deliver value. With Union Gas, home energy upgrades are eligible for significant rebates to offset the project cost. Better still, from season to season, measurable utility savings will make a big difference on the budget over the long-term.

Union Gas rebates are available on a range of renovations

By improving energy efficiency, property owners are eligible for up to $5,000 in rebates. The fact is, a high-quality energy retrofit can reduce annual energy bills by 20%. More than that, a home that is energy efficient is more attractive on the real estate market to a prospective homebuyer.

Provincial rebates have never been better. Under the banner of the Home Reno Rebate Program, Union Gas rebates make it possible to offset renovations and upgrades that are focused on energy efficiency. Working with a Registered Energy Advisor, property owners can benefit substantially.

Heating system upgrades    up to $1,000

Insulation retrofitting             up to $1,750

New water heater                 lump sum $500

Windows and doors              $80 per opening

New appliances                    up to $75 each

Heat pump                            up to $5,800

Central air unit                      lump sum $600

In terms of project work, at least two renovations must be undertaken, depending on the home’s heating source. As well, an accredited professional contractor must do a pre-reno assessment and a post-reno assessment. The rebate process is complete when all of the required paperwork is submitted directly to Union Gas. Rebate cheques are then forwarded to the property owner.

A Registered Energy Advisor must complete an assessment

To take full advantage of Union Gas rebates, a Registered Energy Advisor must complete a pre-reno and post-reno assessment. These advisors will provide homeowners with third party advice on improving energy efficiency and reducing energy consumption.

Registered Energy Advisors work with licensed service organizations accredited by NRCan. Every assessment adheres to guidelines that are part of Canada’s EnerGuide Rating System. By working with accredited companies, homeowners are assured of quality.

To comply with the Home Reno Rebate Program, property owners must ensure their eligibility; choose a Registered Energy Advisor; hire a reputable contractor; assemble invoices; and satisfy the required deadlines of the program.
