Standalone Ontario Attic Insulation Rebate Improves for 2026

Jan 09, 2026

Ontario attic insulation rebate increased to $1,250 in 2026 with strikethrough showing previous $1,000 amount

Ontario’s standalone attic insulation rebate just got better. As of January 5, 2026, the Home Renovation Savings Program increased the maximum possible rebate amount by $250 across all tiers – meaning it now offers Ontario homeowners up to $1,250 for standard attic upgrades and up to $750 for cathedral ceiling upgrades. This standalone attic rebate does not require an upfront energy assessment. If you’ve been considering attic insulation improvements, Winter 2026 is the best time to act!

What Changed in January 2026

The standalone Attic Program Stream increase its maximum rebate amounts:

  • Standard attic insulation: Up to $1,250 in rebates (previously $1,000)

  • Cathedral ceiling insulation: Up to $750 (previously $500)

All rebates are capped at 50% of your insulation product costs after tax. For example, if your attic upgrade costs $2,000 in materials after taxes and you qualify for the $1,250 maximum rebate tier, you would receive $1,000 (50% of the costs after tax).

Planning whole-home upgrades? The Home Renovation Savings program also offers a multi-measure Assessment Stream that offers up to $5,000 in rebates for natural gas heated homes, or up to $10,000 for homes of other heating sources. This multi-measure rebate path includes rebates for improvements to basement insulation, wall insulation, windows, and HVAC. However, the multi-measure path requires pre- and post-work energy assessments from a registered energy advisor, and a minimum of two qualifying upgrade measures to be completed. If you’re a homeowner looking to only improve their attic space, the standalone attic stream is simpler and faster.

Why The Standalone Attic Rebate Makes Sense

The standalone attic stream removes a lot of complexity that general surround rebate programs:

  1. No Energy Assessments – Saves you time and upfront costs with no pre- and post-work energy assessment requirement.
  2. One Upgrade Qualifies – Get rebates for attic insulation upgrades alone, no need to upgrade multiple areas of the home.
  3. Fast Processing, Less Paperwork – Submission is handled by Great Northern Insulation! Provide the necessary information and signed form, and we’ll complete your application submission for you.

Basic Eligibility

The eligibility requirements for the standalone attic insulation upgrade path of the Home Renovation Savings program have not changed. In short, your home must:

  • Be heated by Enbridge Gas natural gas, or by electricity, wood, oil, or propane (connected to IESO grid).

  • Be a detached house, semi-detached, townhouse, or condominium.

  • Have existing attic insulation below the program R-value thresholds.

  • Carry out upgrades with a participating insulation contractor – and Great Northern Insulation is!

Why Act Now

Winter 2026 is the ideal time to carry out attic insulation upgrades. You’ll immediately feel the improvement that comes from better attic insulation, which helps keep you comfortable and your home’s HVAC systems running optimally, saving money.

While the program is currently set to run through November 2026, rebates are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Past rebate programs available to Ontario homeowners, such as the GreenON Rebate program and the Canada Greener Homes Grant were both closed with minimal warning.

Finally, the rebate you receive is determined by when your upgrades are completed, not when you book a quote or express interest. It’s best to get a free, no-obligation assessment from Great Northern Insulation now to determine your rebate eligibility and project costs to make sure if you choose to move forward with upgrades you’ll benefit from the January 2026 rebate amount increases.

Next Steps

Contact Great Northern Insulation, who is a participating contractor in the standalone attic path of the Home Renovation Savings Program. We’ll evaluate your attic’s current R-value, confirm program eligibility, and provide an accurate rebate estimate before you commit to anything. Our quotes are always free and carry no obligation, and if you choose to move forward with upgrades and the rebate, we’ll handle your application process once work is complete.

Since the standalone attic rebate stream launched in August 2025, we’ve helped hundreds of Ontario homeowners access these rebates. With thousands of 5-star reviews across Google My Business and glowing testimonials since our formation in 1980, we’ve become Ontario’s most trusted insulation provider.
