Ontario's 2025 Insulation Rebate Programs: Which Path Is Right for Your Home?
October 06, 2025
If you're an Ontario homeowner looking to improve your home's energy efficiency this winter, you're in luck. As of August 2025, there are now two distinct rebate paths available through the Home Renovation Savings Program offered by Enbridge Gas and Save On Energy, each designed to meet different needs and budgets.
The New Standalone Attic Rebate Stream
Launched in August 2025, this streamlined program is a standalone stream of the Home Renovation Savings Program specifically for homeowners who only want to upgrade their attic insulation. Unlike the multi-scope option, this stream:
-
Requires only a single upgrade (attic insulation)
-
Features a streamlined application process, with all paperwork handled by Great Northern Insulation
-
Offers rebates of $400-$1,000 for attic insulation improvements
-
Can only be completed by select participating contractors, of which Great Northern Insulation is one
The Multi-Measure Home Renovation Savings Program
The comprehensive Home Renovation Savings Program, launched in July 2024, offers up to $7,700 in rebates for insulation upgrades. This program requires homeowners to complete at least two eligible upgrades and undergo pre- and post-work EnerGuide energy audits.
Maximum rebates available:
-
Exterior Wall Insulation: Up to $3,600
-
Basement Insulation: Up to $3,600
-
Attic Insulation: Up to $1,500
-
Crawl Space Insulation: Up to $1,200
-
Air Sealing: $250
The program also provides a $600 rebate toward the required energy assessments, though many qualified energy advisors charge more than this amount.
Which Program Should You Choose?
Choose the Multi-Measure HRS Stream if:
-
You're planning multiple home upgrades
-
You want maximum rebate potential (up to $1,500 for attic vs. $1,000 maximum for attic-only) and have two qualifying measures
-
You're comfortable with the required energy assessments and associated upfront costs
Choose the Attic-Only HRS Stream if:
-
You're focused specifically on attic insulation
-
You prefer a simpler application process
-
You want to start improvements quickly
Important Timeline Information
Both programs are currently scheduled to run until the end of November 2025, though they may be extended into 2026. With Ontario's harsh winters approaching, acting sooner rather than later ensures program availability and project completion before peak heating season.
