Canada Post Strike Delays Home Renovation Savings Rebate Cheques
September 29, 2025
If you've recently completed insulation upgrades through Ontario's Home Renovation Savings Program, you might be wondering when your rebate cheque will arrive. Unfortunately, the ongoing Canada Post strike is causing delays in the processing and delivery of rebate payments, as these cheques are sent through the mail.
According to the Home Renovation Savings program website, “Due to the ongoing Canada Post strike, we are currently unable to process or send out rebate cheques for the Home Renovation Savings program. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We will resume processing and sending out cheques as soon as the strike is over.”
While Enbridge Gas typically sends rebate cheques approximately 8 weeks following processing of your rebate application (with all paperwork handled by GNI), the current postal disruption means there could be additional waiting time before your rebate payment reaches your mailbox. If you're expecting a rebate, it's worth keeping an eye on news about the strike's resolution and being patient as the backlog works through the system – we'll also be sure to post an update to this article and our rebate information page, when available.
Streamlined Attic Rebate Stream Available
In August 2025, the Home Renovation Savings Program was updated to include a streamlined Attic Rebate Stream, making it even easier to upgrade your attic insulation. This simplified option offers between $400 and $1,000 in rebates specifically for attic insulation improvements, with no energy assessments required.
This new attic rebate is perfect for Ontario homeowners who know their attic needs better insulation but don't want to navigate the full home assessment process. It's also proven to be extremely popular – Great Northern Insulation has already upgraded hundreds of attics in Ontario homes since the program launched just over a month ago, and our customers have shared that they found the process to be very easy, especially with Great Northern Insulation’s teams handling all of the paperwork.
A Reminder About the Home Renovation Savings Program
Despite temporary delays in receiving rebate payments, the Home Renovation Savings Program remains an excellent opportunity for Ontario homeowners to improve their home's energy efficiency while saving money with rebates. The program offers up to $7,700 in rebates for various insulation upgrades throughout your home.
For customers planning to upgrade insulation and air sealing in two or more areas of their home, the multi-measure stream of the rebate is very attractive: homeowners can receive up to $1,500 for attic insulation upgrades, up to $2,300 for foundation insulation upgrades, and up to $3,600 for exterior wall insulation upgrades, among others. To qualify for the multiple upgrade stream of the rebate program, pre- and post-work energy assessments need to be completed at an upfront cost. However, your final rebate amount will also include a separate $600 rebate to offset the cost of those home energy assessments (which are valuable tools in understanding and improving your home’s energy efficiency!).
