Which Insulation Rebate Is Right For Me?
August 08, 2025
Insulation isn’t a flashy home upgrade. You can’t show it off like a new kitchen or renovated hardwood floors. But when it comes to comfort, energy savings, and long-term value, insulation is one of the smartest upgrades a homeowner can make.
Improving your home’s insulation can:
- Reduce heating and cooling bills
- Improve year-round comfort
- Pay itself off over time
Thanks to a new attic insulation rebate as part of Ontario’s existing Home Renovation Savings Program from Enbridge Gas and Save on Energy, it’s now cheaper for Ontario homeowners to upgrade their existing home insulation.
If you’re a homeowner looking to upgrade more than just your attic, additional rebate paths as part of the Home Renovation Savings Program offer more rebate money for upgrading other areas of your home, too.
The Home Renovation Savings program and its new attic insulation-only rebate can be a bit confusing to navigate. In this article, we’re breaking down the different paths of the rebate program, and which may be best for you depending on your insulation needs.
The New Attic Insulation Rebate: Simple, Fast, and Effective
If you’re looking for the easiest way to upgrade your home’s insulation, the new attic-only rebate stream is your best bet.
Key Benefits:
- $400–$1,000 in rebates (up to 50% of insulation product cost after tax)
- No energy audit required
- No need for multiple upgrades
- Fast turnaround – rebate cheque arrives ~60 days once work is done and application submitted
- All paperwork handled by Great Northern Insulation
How the Rebate Works:
- The rebate is calculated based on your attic’s current insulation level and type (standard attic or sloped/cathedral attic)
- Homeowners can receive up to $1,000, but the rebate is capped at 50% of the insulation product cost after tax. For instance, if you qualify for a maximum rebate of $1,000, and your attic insulation product costs are $1,900, you would receive a rebate of $950 ($1,900 multiplied by 50%)
- Great Northern Insulation will assess your attic’s R-Value to confirm eligibility during your free quote and provide you with your anticipated rebate so you have full knowledge ahead of moving forward with the work
Why It’s a Game-Changer
- This is the first insulation rebate in years that doesn’t require an energy audit
- It’s ideal for homeowners who want to improve comfort and energy efficiency without having to schedule additional contractors or pay the up-front energy assessment costs
- It’s especially valuable for older homes that haven’t had attic insulation upgrades – and because you can install any type of insulation, it’s a great opportunity to receive a rebate for installing spray foam insulation for a long-lasting attic insulation upgrade
There are additional eligibility requirements for the new attic insulation rebate stream that can be found on our program details page here. You can also reach out to Great Northern Insulation directly and we can help verify your eligibility.
The Multi-Scope Rebate Stream: For Bigger Projects
If you’re planning to upgrade more than just your attic—like windows, doors, basement insulation, or installing a heat pump water heater—the traditional Assessment Program Stream might be right for you.
Key Benefits:
- Up to $5,000 in rebates for Enbridge Gas-heated homes
- Up to $10,000 for electrically/oil/wood/propane-heated homes
- Requires two or more qualifying upgrades
- Must complete pre- and post-retrofit energy assessments
- Includes a $600 reimbursement for the required energy assessments – however, some registered energy advisor companies may have pre- and post-retrofit energy assessments that exceed this rebate
How the Multi-Scope Rebate Stream Works:
- You must complete a pre- and post-work EnerGuide energy assessment with a registered energy advisor
- You must install at least two qualified measures (e.g: attic insulation and windows, or attic insulation and basement insulation upgrades)
- Rebates are calculated based on the type and extent of upgrades and are pro-rated based on how much of the area is upgraded. Great Northern Insulation can assist with estimating your total rebate as part of our free quote.
Who Should Consider This Rebate Stream:
- Homeowners planning major renovations or energy upgrades
- Homes with multiple areas needing insulation or energy efficiency improvements
