Habitat for Humanity Women Build November 2019

In November 2019, Great Northern Insulation partnered with BASF to participate in a Habitat Women Build day supporting Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario. Women Build is an inclusionary event that focuses on empowering women in the construction industry and consists of a full day dedicated towards constructing homes for families in need.

Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario was established in 1993 as Habitat for Humanity London, before expanding in both 2012 and 2014 to become Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario, additionally serving the Oxford-Middlesex-Elgin and Stratford-Perth areas. They are a non-profit, non-denominational housing organization that works to provide affordable, well-made homes for families with low income.

Great Northern Insulation is thrilled to partner with BASF Canada yet again for another Habitat for Humanity Women Build. Women from both companies came together to assist in the construction of two homes in London, Ontario. Working alongside the volunteer construction professionals with Habitat for Humanity, they participated in a day of insulating, construction labour, and window installation. Despite the chilly working conditions everyone had a fun and eventful day of construction and were proud to leave the worksite at the end of the day with each home a little more complete than it was before they had arrived.

In addition to the Women Build day of construction, Great Northern Insulation and BASF donated the materials and installation for spray foam insulation in each of the two homes being built – one receiving underslab spray foam insulation, while the other home is equipped with the BASF HP+ Wall System, which includes spray foam insulation as part of the exterior wall assembly.

The insulation installed by the Women Build participants, in combination with the spray foam insulation installed by the professionals at Great Northern Insulation, will help to ensure that each home is comfortable year-round for the families that move in. In addition to being a leading insulation product, the underslab spray foam insulation will help to mitigate radon gas from entering the home. Radon is a radioactive gas found throughout Canada that is invisible, scentless, and tasteless. It is the 2^nd leading cause of lung cancer after smoking, and results in more Canadian deaths each year than vehicle accidents. Fortunately, underslab spray foam insulation is one of the best methods in preventing or slowing the rate of radon gas from entering your home, making for a safer, more comfortable home. Having now completed two Women Build days with Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario, the ladies at GNI are excited for the possibility of participating in another in 2020!
